A Sneak Peek at GET’s 2010-2011 Season – An Insider’s View!

GET the Inside Scoop! Be “in the know” on the 5 Best Reasons why Georgia Ensemble Theatre is THE place to be in 2010-11!
Reason #1 – a KNOCKOUT Cast for The Boys Next Door:

We have just completed casting for our first production of the year, the touching comedy The Boys Next Door by Tom Griffin.
Some familiar faces to our patrons … some new to GET … all of them FABULOUS Atlanta actors.

Get to Know The Cast of “The Boys Next Door”

John Benzinger will be making his GET debut as “Arnold Wiggins,” although he’s not new to the Atlanta theatre scene, with several local acting awards. John’s eating habits are unusual, often having lunch around 4, and dinner at midnight.

Spencer Stephens will play “Lucien P. Smith.” Spencer has worked with GET for several years as an instructor with our Conservatory (this man is awesome with puppets & musical theatre!), and we’re thrilled to have him join us for the first time in a mainstage show. Spencer was an accountant for 12 years before becoming an actor.

David Kronawitter will play the role of social worker “Jack.” David has a wonderful 9 month-old son. He was a substitute high school teacher for six years. And he loves Thai food. Oh, and he’s been on “House of Payne,” “Meet the Browns,” and “Prison Break.”

This will be Luis Hernandez’s first appearance with GET. He will be playing the role of “Norman Bulansky.” He can eat fire. (Yikes!) Luis, please stay clear of the stage curtains!

Chad Martin will play the role of “Barry Klemper.” Chad is no stranger to the GET stage: we last saw him here in Great Expectations. He once performed with the guy who played the bra salesman on “Seinfeld.”

Charles Green will be doing triple duty playing the roles of “Mr. Hedges, Mr. Corbin & Senator Clarke” in The Boys Next Door. Charles is an avid cruiser who recently sailed across the Atlantic and along the Inside Passage.

Wendy Melkonian will play the roles of “Mrs. Fremus, Mrs. Warren & Clara.” This will be her first appearance with GET, but morning TV watchers might recognize her as the Fill-In Host of 11 Alive’s “Atlanta and Company” Morning Show. She is also Co-Owner of Breadwinner Breads. (We’re looking forward to the baked goods during rehearsals, Wendy.)

Cara Mantella will play Norman’s love interest “Sheila.” Cara has appeared as the love interest in many shows here at GET, most recently Lying in State. She prides herself on being able to say all 50 states in alphabetical order. Do you know the capitals too? There will be a test later! (That goes for the whole cast.)

Rial Ellsworth will play Barry’s father “Mr. Klemper.” Rial was in middle school drama club with Sigourney Weaver’s husband! He also moonlights as a computer whiz.

Tess Malis Kincaid will direct The Boys Next Door. Tess played Sheila in this play more years ago than she’d care to mention. Fun fact: Tess was directed by Maya Angelou in an all-female production of Macbeth in which she played the title character. And she drinks too much coffee.

About the Play

The Boys Next Door is a touching and funny play focusing on four adult men living in a group home, under the guidance of their caring but overworked counselor. Mingled with scenes from their daily lives, where “little things” sometimes become momentous (and often very funny), are moments of great poignancy. We are reminded that those with special needs, like the rest of us, want only to love and laugh and find meaning in their lives.

Donations Needed:
Please consider a tax-deductible contribution to help keep Georgia Ensemble Theatre and Conservatory a vibrant part of the cultural life of metro Atlanta. As many of you know, we had to unexpectedly (and very quickly) replace our final show of the 2009-10 mainstage season, which left us with significant financial challenges. You may either call 770-641-1260, or donate thru our Facebook Cause page at this link: http://www.causes.com/causes/485857
