WIFTA CELEBRATES WOMEN FILMMAKERS AT 2010 ATLANTA FILM FESTIVAL

Following the tradition of recent years, Women in Film and Television Atlanta will not hold its monthly April program but instead encourages its members to participate and attend the 2010 ATLANTA FILM FESTIVAL
(April 15 – 23, 2010).

In addition WIFTA is sponsoring  FILMMAKERS HAPPY HOUR on Tuesday, April 20th, 2010 to honor and celebrate female filmmakers represented at this year’s festival. This event is open to WIFTA members and AFF Pass holders ONLY. The first 50 members will receive free drink ticket. The event is followed by screening of a Documentary Shorts 2 program that features four films, all by women directors. Join us for this exciting program at the Atlanta Film Festival.

BORN SWEET  Cynthia Wade, Cambodia, 2010, 28 minutes   In Cambodian with English subtitles
Despite being only fifteen years old, Vinh Voeurn has accepted his destiny to be sick for the rest of life with incurable arsenic poisoning. He longs to fall in love with a girl with long, smooth hair. He fantasizes about becoming a karaoke star, winning the affections of adoring fans. But his body is terribly scarred by illness and there is a good chance the arsenic will soon take his life like the girl who once lived across the road.

Kyle Maynard, owner of No Excuses Athletics and a congenital amputee, shows us a new outlook on life as he expresses his passion for helping people achieve their athletic goals.

PAX   Glenn Close, Sarah Harvey, USA, 2009, 22 minutes, English
Sergeant Bill Campbell who returned from Iraq with 100% disability due to post traumatic stress and traumatic brain injury, reclaims his life from an unlikely source; a dog named Pax, trained by inmate Laurie Kellogg at Bedford Hills Correctional Facility for Women. PAX follows the meeting of Bill and Laurie for the first time; two people united, by the brilliance and unconditional love of a dog.

WOMAN REBEL   Kiran Deol, Nepal,USA, 2009, 37 minutes   In Nepalese with English subtitles
Over the course of a controversial ten year revolution in Nepal, 40% of the guerilla army fighting against the government were women. WOMAN REBEL follows the story of one of these women (codename ‘Silu’) on her incredible journey, from the jungles all the way through to Parliament.
