In addition, we have received so many requests from parents and agents who have asked that we offer an audition techniques workshop with Steve to the younger actors that we have agreed to do so!

The Chez Group is excited to announce a one-day auditioning techniques workshop with Steve Coulter that will be structured for actors ages 12 to 15.  This all-day workshop, Auditioning For Film & Television, is scheduled for Saturday, May 19th from 10 AM to 6:30 PM .

For the first time, our younger actors will have the opportunity to work with Steve.  He is an Atlanta based actor, writer and director.  This coming year, he appears in Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games, Disney’s The Odd Life of Timothy Green, opposite Robert Duvall in Jayne Manfield’s Car (directed by Billy Bob Thornton), opposite Colin Firth and Emily Blunt in Arthur Newman Golf Pro for Focus Features, What to Expect When You’re Expecting, Hallmark Hall of Fame’s Firelight, opposite Cuba Gooding, Jr., and with Denzel Washington in Flight, directed by Robert Zemeckis.

A graduate of the North Carolina School of the Arts, his other film and television appearances include Mr. Brooks with Kevin Costner, Prison Break, Boycott and Warm Springs on HBO, and Army Wives. He recently co-starred with The Wire’s Seth Gilliam in The People v. Leo Frank on PBS, and the ABC series,
Detroit 1-8-7.

Steve was the head writer and executive story editor for both of Tyler Perry’s television series on TBS, House of Payne and Meet the Browns, where he supervised over 100 episodes and won two consecutive NAACP IMAGE Awards for Best Comedy Series. He wrote and directed the award-winning short film, The Etiquette Man, selected by the Sundance Channel and the National Gallery of Art in Washington.  His screenplay, Keesha’s House, won the $100,000 Southeastern Media Award at the Atlanta Film Festival.  Steve is also working closely with Shay Griffin as the writer and co-producer of her new television series, The Land That We Love, which is currently in development.

Steve will be focusing on the audition process.  As he explains, auditioning for film and television is not mysterious.  Directors and producers are looking for very specific things.  And there are very simple and specific actions an actor can take to prepare for that audition.

Actors will be taken through the entire audition process, from when they first receive the audition sides, through the first reading, to the callback.  They will learn how to prepare for the audition, what to do once they walk into the room or are put on tape, how to manage nervousness, and most of all, how to actually enjoy the process.  Each actor will be put on tape as part of a simulated film audition.  (Please bring 2 headshots.)

Casting director Shay Griffin will be on hand during the course of the day, as well.

The location of Steve’s workshop is the Residence Inn by Marriott Atlanta/Buckhead at 2960 Piedmont Road, Atlanta, 30305.  The phone number is 404-239-0677 if anyone should need to book a room.

The cost of this all-day workshop is $165, and we offer PayPal for everyone’s convenience.  For your talent to register, please follow this link to the training page of our website and be sure to choose the first workshop posted on the webpage, which is the May 19th workshop, http://www.chezgroup.com/training.html .

The workshop will be filled on a first come, first served basis.
