In the Film Directing Intensive the student will learn aspects of film directing from script to screen. From an idea that becomes a script, to casting, pre-production, production and post: by the end of the six week intensive each student will walk away with either a completed short film or the tools to complete a film. This is a hands-on directing study that has participants shooting video on the first day of instruction. Access to camera and editing equipment is preferable, yet not mandatory. How does an idea translate to the film medium? Does the film medium best serve the idea? If so, what words are necessary to convey that idea? What images? Casting is critical, so students will also cast their own films. Students will work in groups on initial projects. The final project will require the participant’s direction, with his or her unique style. In the One-Day Intensive One-on-One, the study will reflect the individual’s needs. Each student will be assessed beforehand and the intensive will be tailored accordingly.
