Guest Speakers:
Angela Gomes – Director/Writer/Producer
Angela Gomes started her film career as an AD Trainee, graduating from the Director’s Guild of America’s Assistant Director Training Program in 1996. After years of working as an Assistant Director on projects like “Moesha”, “Crossing Jordan”, “The Shield” and “Big Momma’s House 2”, Angela decided to transition from Assistant Director to Writer/Director.
Over the last few years Angela has kept busy. She became a Director member of the DGA in 2005 when she directed an episode of the UPN comedy “Eve”. Since then she directed several music videos and a concert video for “Gwendolyn and the Good Time Gang” as well as two “webisodes” for “Tyler Perry’s House of Payne”. Last year she wrote and directed the short film “Happy Hour” as part of the Woman’s Angle Director’s Program. “Happy Hour” can be seen as part of the “Battle of the Sexes” program of this years Atlanta Film Festival. Recently Angela partnered with State Line Films to write, produce and direct the TBS microseries “My Manny”, which can currently be seen at www.tbs.com/shows/mymanny. Currently, Angela is prepping to shoot season two of “My Manny”.
Joan Karpeles – Producer/Executive

She is the owner of Joan Produces, a collaborative production company that creates award-winning communications for advertising agencies, nonprofits and corporations. Whether it’s a commercial, documentary or for training, telling the story is always at the heart of the project. As the executive producer of the company, Joan is involved in every aspect of the production process providing her clients with a clear understanding of project objectives, budgets and schedules.
Joan is proud to say, “television made me what I am today”. And that is evident in her work. See for yourself at www.joandproduces.com.
