COMPETITION CALL FOR ENTRIES

One of the most recognized and prestigious Screenplay and Teleplay competitions, AFF breaks out newcomers from the privacy of their desks into the heart of the industry. Whether your dream is signing a contract, landing an agent, learning craft from an industry icon, or taking home the coveted Bronze Typewriter Award, you can’t win if you don’t enter.

  • The Drama Screenplay Award Presented by the Writers Guild of America, East

    The Writers Guild of America, East is the underwriting sponsor of the Drama Screenplay Award category. Drama Finalist scripts will be judged by a select panel of WGAE screenwriters and the winner will be presented by a WGAE representative at the Awards Luncheon on Saturday, October 26, 2013.

  • The Comedy Award (open to Dark, Satirical, Slapstick, etc.)

  • Darkwoods Productions Horror Award – NEW CATEGORY
    Frank Darabont’s company, Darkwoods Productions (THE MIST, THE GREEN MILE) will review the top scripts submitted in this category and will determine the Semifinalists and Finalists and the winner will be handpicked by Frank Darabont and Dana Ashmore his Executive. The category is open to any feature horror script including dark suspense, thriller, sci-fi and macabre themes.
  • Enderby Entertainment Award

    Enderby Entertainment was co-founded by producer Rick Dugdale and Oscar® nominated screenwriter Daniel Petrie, Jr (BEVERLY HILLS COP). The Enderby Entertainment Award category is open to feature scripts in all genres with an originalconcept and distinctive voice that can be independently produced under $5 million.

  • Dark Hero Studios Sci-Fi Award

    Dark Hero Studios is the creation of screenwriter David Hayter (WATCHMEN, X2) and producer Benedict Carver. Submit your sci-fi, fantasy, or horror script in this category for the opportunity to have your script read by this up-and-coming production company.

*To be considered for the sponsored awards you must have your screenplay entered in either the Drama or Comedy screenplay categories.

Teleplay Final Deadline: JUNE 1st ($30)

Screenplay and teleplay winners will be announced at the 2013 Austin Film Festival and Screenwriters Conference held October 24-31, 2013.

Past competition entrants have signed with agencies, have had scripts optioned, acquired and made, and have jumpstarted TV writing careers. 2010 Finalist Chris Cantwell had his script “Halt & Catch Fire” (co-written with partner Chris Rogers) ordered by AMC as one of four projects this year to go to pilot. 2010 Comedy Screenplay Winner Julie Howe currently has her winning script “Jasper Milliken” in development with Sony-based producers, Joyce San Pedro (an AFF judge) and Alex Siskin. Appearing on the 2012 Black List are 2011 Comedy Screenplay Winner Max Taxe for his winning script “Goodbye, Felix Chester” and 2012 Drama Finalist Austin Reynolds for “From New York to Florida”.
